State of the kid

Sorry for the long gap between posts, please regard that as good news. We now have a going-home checklist, the status of each item of which is as follows:

- Breathe on room air: check, pretty much ever since he came out.

- Maintain body temperature outside of isolette: check.

- Take all feeds by breast or bottle for 72 hours: check, six straight days.

- No desats (reductions in oxygen saturation) or bradies (heartrate decreases) for 5 days: check.

- Consistently gain weight: not check. He has been gaining periodically (currently at 1680 grams, 3 lbs 11 oz), but plateuing for days in between. Karen's theory is that he got wind of his imminent homecoming and promptly commenced an agressive in-crib calesthenics program to keep his weight down so as to remain in the care of the extremely reliable and expert staff for a while longer.

- Car seat challenge (must sit in car seat for an hour with no desats or bradies): not check. First, there aren't any carseats made with a minimum weight of less than four pounds, and second, this is among the things the lack of which created the sense of panic referred to in the previous posting. We have ordered though, and it should be arriving soon.

The current over-under for Tiegan's return, as set by his primary nurse, is 4/30/08.

Congrats! Tiegan is already performing at the top of his game. While at the ground-breaking for the new children's hospital yesterday, I was thinking how his will be another of their amazing success stories.
